waiting for my coffee beans to grind this morning, I look at all of the pictures of my Dad and I on the fridge. His eyes twinkle at me from the glossy squares and my heart starts to sting. The stinging rises to my tear ducts, tears fall and I have to plant my feet on the floor in order to regain my balance. I remember all of the mornings that he would get me ready for school. He was the most gentle waker-upper in the world. He would lean in and I would feel his beard tickle my cheek and he would say, “its almost time to wake up Mimi”. Then five or so minutes later he would come in again and in the same gentle tone he remind me that it was time to get up soon. He would do this as many times as it took and never once did he get angry with me when I would slip back into my dream world.
I wish he was here right now to wake me from this bad dream in my kitchen. Im staring at pictures of him. Pictures of him that will NEVER be him. No more beard tickles, no more gentle morning wake-ups. I pray that tonight when I slip into my dream world that he is there and for the night my heart will stop stinging. I love you my dear sweet Daddy.

losing petals, hair.

nature of nature.
